Task 3

For our task 3 3 minute film we wanted to focus on the theme of Christmas but give it an eerie twist. We wanted to challenge ourselves by choosing to film in an interior location which was small room at my student accommodation. and wanted to film in the dark instead of exterior like the last two tasks to switch it up. We bought small Christmas decorations from Poundland to use as our props. These included textured baubles, bells, wooden ornaments on a string and tinsels. We wanted to experiment with these props with light and shadows by using a singular light source which was my iPhone flash to manipulate light and dark. We recorded sounds from the props such as bells ringing, wooden sounds clanging and even improvised our own sound by using some water in a glass and using our fingers going around the brim of the glass to create a high-pitched sound provoking a visceral response from the audience which was the preferred response illustrated by the feedback written on the post it not...

Task 2

For exercise 2 we we’re given the task to film a selection of wide shots and close ups. Record some spot fx and ‘atmos’ recordings that best represent what you find there. After doing this we we’re then asked to edit the images from the wide shots onto the sound from the spot fx and close ups onto the atmos recordings to make a 1 minute film. The location we used to film was around the winter gardens. We came up with the idea of juxtaposing nature with the modern world we live in where we are surrounded by proliferating technology. We chose to film things such as plants, water and other natural resources. We then recorded man-made sounds such as bells, sirens and people busking on the street to create contrast between footage of nature. We experimented with combining spot fx sounds onto wide shots and atmos sounds onto close up shots and learnt that you can be very creative by generating dissimilarity between different types of shots and sounds. For example, having a wide ...

Task 1

I started off my journey here at the Peace Gardens, an iconic landmark in the heart of Sheffield known for it's beautiful water fountain display and tranquility. The weather wasn't the best as it was raining and windy which hindered my sound recordings a little bit. However, you could hear people socializing with one another sat on benches and children's laughs filled the air playing around the water fountain. Cafe's and restaurants were very close in the area so you could smell everything with the help from the wind such as Pizzas and meat being grilled. This was a good starting point because I had the choice to head in any direction. After walking away from the starting point from the Peace Gardens I came to sit in the Winter Gardens trying to come up with any ideas. It was very peaceful as you could see people sat down on benches reading quietly. Unlike the Peace Gardens this was inside so there was a dramatic change in temperature and sound with it being ...

Creative Food

This exercise was called "Creative Food" where as a group we had to brainstorm our ideas of what inspires us in our everyday lives. We came up with several as shown above in the picture.
