Creative Food



This exercise was called "Creative Food" where as a group we had to brainstorm our ideas of what inspires us in our everyday lives. We came up with several as shown above in the picture.

About a Girl explores themes such as aspirations and dark themes such as domestic abuse, family troubles and poverty. The film has a comedic start where a girl is shown in silhouette singing and dancing to the Britney Spears song “Stronger.” It is abruptly cut to her then walking along the backdrop of Manchester's industrial landscape talking non-stop about her aspirations for the future such as being a singer. She also tells the audience about her frustration with her family such as her Mum and wanting to live with her Dad. As she goes on walking alongside a canal her descriptions of her pop idols and her favourite ice cream are mixed with hints about family troubles, poverty and domestic violence. Meat factory Ear Worms

Meat factory earworms was a documentary about a man trapped working in a meat factory we watched in class, which focuses on audio. The audio contained sounds of knives being sharpened which made me feel very uncomfortable and un eased with the sound being clear, as if it was being done right next to my ear and other sounds which you would hear in a meat factory such as the cries from the animals being slaughtered which was heart breaking to hear. The documentary’s purpose is to make the audience sympathise for the animals and the man who works there which it successfully does for me. It implies that music is what keeps the man going which was illustrated through the repetitive music being played despite having to go through hearing the animal’s cries. It drowns the sounds from the meat factory out. Overall Evaluation

During this module I have improved dramatically in different skills, especially team work. The documentary film was easily approachable because we got given the choice to base it on anything we wanted within reason. This gave us free will and enabled us to explore our creativity coming up with numerous ideas. For this task we chose to focus our documentary on the Abbeydale Picture House which is an iconic building based on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. Formally it was a cinema opened on the 20 th December 1920. The staff were kind enough to give us a tour of the building before filming and was even lucky enough to get close to the old projectors used back at the time. My confidence skills have improved overall from working with many new people, especially interviewing some of the volunteers face to face as I find talking to new people very nerve-wracking but after doing this I have found it easier to interact with new people.
