Overall Evaluation
During this module I
have improved dramatically in different skills, especially team work. The documentary
film was easily approachable because we got given the choice to base it on anything
we wanted within reason. This gave us free will and enabled us to explore our
creativity coming up with numerous ideas. For this task we chose to focus our documentary
on the Abbeydale Picture House which is an iconic building based on Abbeydale
Road, Sheffield. Formally it was a cinema opened on the 20th
December 1920. The staff were kind enough to give us a tour of the building
before filming and was even lucky enough to get close to the old projectors
used back at the time. My confidence skills have improved overall from working
with many new people, especially interviewing some of the volunteers face to
face as I find talking to new people very nerve-wracking but after doing this I
have found it easier to interact with new people. My team working skill has
also improved as filming projects requires lots of this such as planning and
generally getting to know one another. From task 1 I have grown a lot closer to
the people who I’ve been working with as well as other people in the class. For
task 2 we had to devise a scenario that would explore the character’s emotional
state and their relationship to one another and its progression through the
various interactions. For this we chose one of the film treatments we had
written in our film writing module from our group and so we chose one that focused
on the idea of a mother who had been through domestic abuse and is currently
suffering from PTSD because of the severe trauma. The filming location we chose
was near Ecclesall Road, so we had to plan as a team where to meet and what
equipment we were booking out before filming. We didn’t want to spend money on travel,
so we equally distributed the equipment out and carried it all the way there which
took at least an hour. However, we were lucky enough to catch an uber thanks to
Cameron in the group. Going from task 1 to task 2 I have improved my
organisational skills as I was the producer in task 2, having to book out
equipment and finding actors/actresses to be in the film. We initially struggled
on finding someone willing to play the part of the mother, I emailed numerous
companies but didn’t get a response so I had a final resort of perhaps maybe
someone who I personally know would be kind enough to be in and so I asked my
flat mate and she was more than happy to take part. This also improved my skill
of problem solving as I quickly had to think of an alternative. My team work
skill has also improved because I worked on task 2 with the same crew I worked
with from task 1 and enjoy working with them very much.
