Task 1
I started off my journey here at the Peace Gardens, an iconic landmark in the heart of Sheffield known for it's beautiful water fountain display and tranquility. The weather wasn't the best as it was raining and windy which hindered my sound recordings a little bit. However, you could hear people socializing with one another sat on benches and children's laughs filled the air playing around the water fountain. Cafe's and restaurants were very close in the area so you could smell everything with the help from the wind such as Pizzas and meat being grilled. This was a good starting point because I had the choice to head in any direction.
After walking away from the starting point from the Peace Gardens I came to sit in the Winter Gardens trying to come up with any ideas. It was very peaceful as you could see people sat down on benches reading quietly. Unlike the Peace Gardens this was inside so there was a dramatic change in temperature and sound with it being warmer and less windy. The smell of petrichor filled the enclosed glassed space after the plants have been watered creating an earthen scent coming from the damp soil.
This was my final destination, after walking for 15 minutes I ended up at the Moor with a variety of shops and people busy shopping. I recorded footsteps, water running into the drains, sounds of people talking and a baby crying, vehicles on the road, someone hoovering and bins banging. I also went into the Moor market and recorded some music playing which was strange and eerie. In there I could smell fresh produce such as fruit, meat/fish and food from small cafe's. I then went back outside from the warmth and into the cold to try and record some more sounds.
