The Apology Line
The Apology Line is a short documentary about people confessing
the things which they had done from the little things down to the worse things,
anonymously through a phone line. The documentary focused on themes such as
secrets, remorse and shame. The film predominantly uses shots of buildings
during the night, looking into the building windows, the streets and interior
shots such as in a cafe where a woman is seen alone drinking her tea with half
of her face cut off and in bedrooms where silhouettes can be seen through the
curtains and faces half shown to further reinforce the anonymous approach. Some
shots of the buildings are unfocused giving the lights a distorted effect which
makes it hard to tell where the location is for the viewer. I think
the technique of keeping the people in it anonymous relates to the content for
example not showing faces. They are confessing what they have done wrong and it
would spoil the whole thing if you knew who was talking and therefore I liked
this technique as encourages the viewer/listener to create a picture of who
they think is talking on the phone.
