Overall Evaluation

During this module I have improved dramatically in different skills, especially team work. The documentary film was easily approachable because we got given the choice to base it on anything we wanted within reason. This gave us free will and enabled us to explore our creativity coming up with numerous ideas. For this task we chose to focus our documentary on the Abbeydale Picture House which is an iconic building based on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. Formally it was a cinema opened on the 20 th December 1920. The staff were kind enough to give us a tour of the building before filming and was even lucky enough to get close to the old projectors used back at the time. My confidence skills have improved overall from working with many new people, especially interviewing some of the volunteers face to face as I find talking to new people very nerve-wracking but after doing this I have found it easier to interact with new people. My team working skill has also improved as filming projects ...

Drama Evaluation

Our drama film was based around a mother who has gone through domestic abuse and is now suffering from PTSD. We wanted to display her traumatic experience by using flashbacks both visual and audio such as at the beginning of the film where there’s a shot of the door with a shadowy figure standing there and moves away. This straight away encourages intrigue from the audience, making them want to know who exactly this person is and what they look like. We initially struggled on getting an actress to play the mother, but this was quickly resolved because we were lucky enough to have my flat mate play as the mother as she looked mature enough to play her. Our teamwork has been great especially equipment wise. A lot of equipment had to be booked out and we equally distributed them all carrying it to the location ...

Edit feedback

During the edit feedback session, we were unable to present our rough cut to the class as our editor was unable to turn up with the footage meaning that we didn’t get any peer feedbacks. However, we have watched our own rough cuts through and given ourselves some feedback that towards the end, because we are building up suspension we needed to have the shots cut a lot quicker for fast paced editing which was then added to the second cut. The first cut didn’t have any dialogue but was then later added with the male voice shouting which starts to build tension. The final cut we lastly added the female voice alongside with the male voice which put together starts to tell the story of the domestic abuse unravelling slowly as the film progresses. We included a strong element of sound design illustrated by the deep muffled sounds of the male shouting and the soft sound of the female being powerless against him displaying a clear confliction between the two and this was used to elicit empath...
