Sync sound session

In this session we were introduced to sync sound which is sound recorded at the time of the filming. We used a rifle mic which was attached onto a boom stick where we had to have it extended. We were put into groups where someone had to be interviewed by an interviewer. By using the boom stick we had to get as close as we could to the interviewees face without it being in the shot. We were all surprised at how close you could reach. The rifle mic was connected to the Panasonic AG-DVX200 4K to create sync sound. This is a new camera we were introduced to which is much more advanced than the previous cameras we have used with much more options to mess with. We were also playing with the small microphones which is often used in interviews where they can be concealed in many ways if needed to such as under shirts, collars and ties. These microphones are omni-directional meaning that it records sound all around the subject like a bubble and cancels out the other sounds outside the parameter. For the documentary I think that using a rifle mic attached to a boom stick would be more suitable as it is directional and so can pick up a more high quality sound when you reach a good distance from the subject.
