Meat factory Ear Worms

Image
Meat factory earworms was a documentary about a man trapped working in a meat factory we watched in class, which focuses on audio. The audio contained sounds of knives being sharpened which made me feel very uncomfortable and un eased with the sound being clear, as if it was being done right next to my ear and other sounds which you would hear in a meat factory such as the cries from the animals being slaughtered which was heart breaking to hear. The documentary’s purpose is to make the audience sympathise for the animals and the man who works there which it successfully does for me. It implies that music is what keeps the man going which was illustrated through the repetitive music being played despite having to go through hearing the animal’s cries. It drowns the sounds from the meat factory out. The sounds used in the documentary was very powerful and intense to get the message across about the horrors in a meat factory through using unsettling and concentrated sounds such as knive...

Overall Evaluation

During this module I have improved dramatically in different skills, especially team work. The documentary film was easily approachable because we got given the choice to base it on anything we wanted within reason. This gave us free will and enabled us to explore our creativity coming up with numerous ideas. For this task we chose to focus our documentary on the Abbeydale Picture House which is an iconic building based on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. Formally it was a cinema opened on the 20 th December 1920. The staff were kind enough to give us a tour of the building before filming and was even lucky enough to get close to the old projectors used back at the time. My confidence skills have improved overall from working with many new people, especially interviewing some of the volunteers face to face as I find talking to new people very nerve-wracking but after doing this I have found it easier to interact with new people. My team working skill has also improved as filming projects ...

Documentary Rough Cut Feedback

Image
In this session we were asked to produce a rough cut of our short documentary to present in class and received feedback from via post it notes and general class discussions. The most prevalent praise from our rough cut was our use of the drone which is owned by Ryan in the group. We decided to use the drone to capture the hard to reach places inside the building and to get an overall atmosphere of the building itself. We also used the drone for the viewer to feel more immersed within the documentary as though they are in the building having it gliding smoothly across from a point of view aspect. Another praise we got was from the use of an old movie filter which people in the class said fits in with the documentary nicely and the old music which Cameron composed on the computer. The old film filter and music used in conjunction elicits a nostalgic response. Our rough cut was intended to build anticipation by firstly not giving away exactly where the loc...
